Rainbow Classroom

The Rainbow Class was established in September 2021, catering for the needs of autistic children in the locality.  The advantage of an Autism class within a mainstream school is that the children have the opportunity to interact with their peers and equally, they may have access to a mainstream class and integration over time.

In the Rainbow Class, we combine teaching the curriculum areas with extra activities, including Yoga, mindfulness, speech and language, sensory development and social skills. We also have a separate OT room, where each child can partake in individual OT circuits throughout the day. Each child has their own individual timetable, suited to their own educational and developmental needs.

The advantage of the special class is that the children have a much lower pupil-teacher ratio with a high level of SNA support. Additionally, an Autism class provides the opportunity for students to follow the curriculum at a pace and level appropriate to them and to participate in mainstream activities and classes as much as possible.
