There has always been a very strong Gaelic tradition in the school and in the parish with the game of Gaelic football played with great passion with many of our pupils playing with St. Mary’s Granard and Ballymore Ladies GAA teams. At present the school boasts a full-sized playing pitch and an Astro Turf facility.  These areas allow us to promote and develop participation in Gaelic football, hurling, rounders and handball. The school participates in the mixed team and girls league and championship of Cumann na mBunscol annually as well as the Credit Union Under 10 Tournament with training taking place after school each week.

Athletics

We have a long tradition of Athletics in our school. From September, children are given a chance to try out for our cross country teams. We compete in the school finals of Longford cross country. Sports Day is another big day for everyone in Sacred Heart Primary School. We hold sprints, relays and novelty races such as egg and spoon, sack race and 3 legged races. There is always a great atmosphere on the day.

Soccer

Every year, we take part in the SPAR FAI Primary school 5 a side competition. This year we have started playing the games on the astroturf every Tuesday afternoon for children from 4th, 5th and 6th class.
