Music

Our school has a very proud tradition of promoting Music and Drama. The children have the opportunity to take part in ‘School Scór’ every year where we participate in all categories: Recitation, Novelty Act, Ballad Group, Solo Singing, Set Dancing (Girls and Mixed), Figure Dancing, Tráth ns gCeist, Instrumental and Disco Dancing.

Scór is a GAA competition that combines all the colour and rivalry of Gaelic Games with the social/fun element of Ireland's traditional past-times. The aim of the competition is to promote Ireland's traditional pastimes and culture. It is a competition that is traditionally run with local GAA clubs but Longford is one of the few counties that runs it at school level also. Our school has been very successful down through the years thanks to the hard work and dedication of pupils and the staff involved in preparing them. This is reflected in the numerous times we have won ‘School of the Year’. Most importantly, it gives the children great opportunities to hone their talents and to build their confidence in performing in front of others.

Our school choir sing monthly at mass in St. Mary’s Church and for the celebrations of First Holy Communion and Confirmation. Children from 2nd- 6th Class take part in the choir. We have often performed at community events such as the switching on of the Christmas lights in Granard.

Pre-Covid there were guitar, piano and tin whistle lessons available in the school. We hope to have these back up and running in the near future.

Naturally, the children love the chance to perform for their parents and families. We have Christmas plays/ concerts on alternating years and a ‘Seachtain na Gaeilge’ concert in March. We will be delighted to be able to welcome back parents and families to these events.
