Winter League
28th Feb 2025
Roscommon have been crowned the winners of our second annual 'Winter League'!
Over 60 children from 3rd to 6th Class competed in the league which ran from November-February. It was a great way to improve upon our football skills over the usually quiet, winter months and lots of new children joined again this year, giving them a great chance to try out football. The league took place every Thursday and Friday at lunch time and the 6 teams (Longford, Cavan, Westmeath, Mayo, Cork and Roscommon) all played each other over 5 rounds. This lead to semi-finals and a very close and exciting final between Roscommon and Westmeath. Great crowds gathered to watch each match and it was fantastic to see the support that was given to all of the teams. Every match proved very entertaining and there were some very close ones along the way! The children deserve great credit for their dedication and enthusiasm throughout the league- the captains organised their teams for each match, the referees gave their lunch to make sure the games ran smoothly and all of the children worked hard to build upon their football and teamwork skills. The aim of the league was to have fun, promote football and keep our skills sharp over the winter months, ahead of the restart of Cumann na mBunscol activities- we certainly feel like this has been achieved by all! Both teams were presented with their medals at a special assembly, with Roscommon being the first team to claim our new Winter League trophy! Well done to everyone that took part!Sacred Heart Primary School, Rathcronan, Granard, Co. Longford | Phone: 043 668 6894
