Tree Planting

Pupils Swap Pencils for Shovels to Plant Over 700 Trees at Sacred Heart Primary School

There was a different kind of learning taking place recently at Sacred Heart Primary School in Granard, as pupils temporarily put down their pencils and picked up shovels for a very special project. In partnership with Tree on the Land and Granard Area Action, our school community came together to plant more than 700 native trees across the school campus.

The initiative transformed the school grounds into a hive of activity as pupils from different classes worked side by side, carefully planting rows of young saplings that will grow and flourish for generations to come. The project provided a wonderful opportunity for children to experience hands-on environmental learning while making a meaningful contribution to their local environment.

The pupils learned about the importance of trees for biodiversity, wildlife habitats, and climate action. They also discovered how planting trees today will help create a greener, healthier future for their community.

The atmosphere on the day was full of enthusiasm and teamwork. Students showed great care as they dug, planted the saplings, taking pride in knowing that the trees they planted will become part of the school landscape for many years.

This large-scale planting was made possible through the generous support and collaboration of Tree on the Land and Granard Area Action, whose commitment to community environmental projects continues to inspire young people to take an active role in protecting nature.

The newly planted trees will enhance the biodiversity of the school grounds, provide shelter for birds and wildlife, and create a beautiful natural space for future outdoor learning.

Sacred Heart Primary School would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone involved in organising and supporting this wonderful initiative. Thanks to this collaborative effort, our pupils have not only helped plant hundreds of trees but have also planted the seeds of environmental awareness and responsibility.

As the trees grow, they will stand as a lasting reminder of what can be achieved when a community works together for the benefit of the environment.
